Profile of the author Russell C Farnham, C.G., was born in Billerica, Middlesex County, Massachusetts and raised in Boston (Allston), Suffolk County. He is a 24-year Air Force retired [1971] Chief Master Sergeant. He had a new career in outside sales with Bruhnke & Silver, a Dun & Bradstreet Company before retiring in 1990 and moving to Florida from Phoenix. His paternal grandparents were Emma Gertrude (Tibbetts) Farnham, the wife of William Adelbert Farnham of Belgrade, Kennebec County, Maine where his ancestors lived for five generations. His maternal grandparents were Martha Eulela (Mooney) Longfellow, a descendant of the immigrant, Hercules Mooney. She was the wife of Judson Perkins Longfellow of Bolton Center, Quebec and Boston, whose father, grandfather and gr-grandfather were of Palermo, Maine. The immigrants, Ralph Farnum and Henry Tibbetts, came to America in 1635 on the same voyage of the James, from London, before the families were again united 257 years later at Belgrade. Russell published the two-volume New England Descendants of the Immigrant, Ralph Farnum of Rochester, Kent County, England and Ipswich, Massachusetts (Peter E Randall Publishers, Portsmouth, NH 1999), winner of the grand prize, Connecticut Society of Genealogists 2000 Literary Award. He has now published A Longfellow Genealogy comprising the English ancestry and descendants of the Immigrant William Longfellow of Newbury, Massachusetts, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (Walrus Publishers, Inverness, Florida, 2002). He is working on a third volume to his Farnum book. He is a member of the National Genealogical Society, NEHGS, NHGS, Maine GS, Maine Historical Society, Essex Society of Genealogists, and York County, Maine GS. He is a Board Certified Genealogist and has published in The American Genealogist, The Maine Genealogist, The Essex Genealogist, and York County GS Journal. He writes monthly electronic articles for the NEHGS web site on Maine genealogical research.
